How we rankroofing companies

The inputs behind every ranking on this site, in the order they are applied, and what we refuse to use.

Every ranked list on this site is produced by the 5 inputs below, applied in this order. We publish them because a ranked list whose reasoning is hidden is an advertisement, and because a company that believes it is placed wrongly should be able to check our working.

The Inputs

  1. BBB rating + accreditation
  2. Google review count and average
  3. Years trading under the same name
  4. Manufacturer certifications, where documented
  5. Confirmed service area

What Each One Means

BBB rating and accreditation

The letter grade the Better Business Bureau publishes, whether the company is accredited, and the complaint count on its profile. We link to the profile so you can read it yourself. We record the grade exactly as published: an A is an A, never rounded up.

Google review count and average

Both figures together, because either alone misleads. A 5.0 from nine reviews is not stronger than a 4.7 from six hundred, and a high count with a mediocre average is its own signal.

Years trading under the same name

Roofing has a storm-chaser problem: companies appear after a hail event and are gone before the warranty matters. Time under one name is the cheapest check against it. We count the name, not the people, because that is what is verifiable.

Manufacturer certifications, where documented

Certifications only count when the company or the manufacturer can evidence them. A logo on a website is not evidence. Where we could not verify one, the listing says None documented rather than leaving it blank, and the company does not lose position for it.

Confirmed service area

Which places a company actually works in, from its own published material. A company that lists half of Texas is telling you less than one that lists four towns.

What We Do Not Use

  • Payment. No position on this site can be bought, and no listing fee changes an order.
  • Our own reviews. We have never inspected a roof and we do not pretend to have opinions we cannot source.
  • A composite score. With 5 verifiable inputs, a number to one decimal place would imply a precision we do not have. Rank plus the reasons is the honest form.
  • Anything a company told us that nobody else can check.

When We Cannot Verify Something

The listing says so, in red, rather than showing a blank. A blank hides exactly the fact you should treat with suspicion, so the missing state on this site is deliberately louder than the present one.

Corrections

If a fact here is wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Every company profile carries a link to claim or correct its listing, and we would rather change a ranking than defend a mistake.
